How to Adopt a Diamond Dog

WONDERING HOW TO ADOPT A DOG WITH US? WE EXPLAIN THE PROCESS STEP BY STEP

So you found the Diamond Dog of your dreams and now your sole mission in life is to do whatever it takes to bring home your furry little soulmate.

Or maybe you saw a few dogs that you liked, but are undecided and looking for some guidance.

Either way, congratulations! If you’re wondering how dog adoption works or what you need to do to take one of our adoptable dogs home, you’ve come to the right place.

Whether you have just laid eyes on your “OMG-THIS-IS-TOTALLY-FATE” dog, or you’re hoping to learn a little more about each dog’s personality, we are happy to help!

Our 5-Step Adoption Process*:

Step 1: Look through our adoptable dogs

If you haven’t already, head over to our Available Dogs page to see all of our unbelievably cute adoptable dogs.

Step 2: Fill out an application

Fill out our adoption application here. Tell us about you and your pets, and what traits your looking for in your new family member.

Step 3: Wait to hear from us

After reviewing your application and talking to your references and veterinarian (if applicable), one of our volunteers will contact you to schedule a home visit.

Step 4: Chat with us

The home visit, which take place over video, is an opportunity for us to learn about what you and your family are looking for in a dog, as well as learn about your daily routine and living arrangements. These are all important questions to help match you with a dog that will be a good fit for your family.

This is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about our organization, dog adoption process, or a specific dog.

Once the application and home visit have been approved, it won’t be long before you’ll finally be able to meet the star of the show.

Step 5: Meet the dog!

When you finally meet that dog that’s been stealing your dreams, we assume there will be a lot of “awws”, puppy kisses and dog cuddles. However we recommend that you also spend some quality time with the dog’s foster family and ask them the need-to-know questions, such as: what are they eating, when are they pooping, what manners do they still need to learn, etc.

If it’s love at first sight, you can bring them home that day or pay a $100 deposit to hold your furry little friends for a few days. The adoption is completed once you fill out the Diamond Dogs Rescue Adoption Contract and pay the adoption fee.

Wasn’t meant to be? Fear not. There’s a whole lot of love to go around at Diamond Dogs Rescue. We’ll work with you to help you find that perfect fit – for both of you.

Once you’re approved, you can follow us on Facebook and check our Available Dogs page or Petfinder profile periodically to find out when we have more dogs available.

BONUS: More puppy kisses and cuddles for you!

Pay It Forward

By the time you bring home your bundle of joy, they will have been rescued and transported to Wisconsin and examined by a licensed veterinarian. They will have received all necessary vaccinations for their age, be on flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, and will be spayed or neutered and microchipped.**

The reason why your dog was able to make their way to you is because another family adopted one of our dogs and paid the adoption fee (more on this below). This money saved your dog’s life.

The small fee you pay to adopt your dog will do the exact same thing for another dog in the near future.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you for helping us and allowing us to continue saving these helpless dogs.

Adoption Fees

Each dog will have a carefully considered adoption fee, you will find this under each dogs individual profile.

*As much as we aspire to be an app processing, home visiting, happy-ever-after, adoption machine, please keep in the mind that we are all volunteers and have other full time jobs, families, resident family dogs and fosters to care for.

We will do our best to make this process as smooth and as quick as possible, and we appreciate your patience throughout the entire process. It may take up to two weeks to process your application and be ready for the home visit step.

If you have questions on the status of you application, please email us or message us on Facebook.

**Sometimes dogs are too young to be spayed or neutered, or we haven’t found a time that worked best with our vet’s schedule. When this happens, you can get your dog spayed or neutered through our vet (free of charge for you) or use your own vet. We’ll call your vet’s office and pay $75 towards the cost of the procedure.
